If you plan on visiting Walt Disney World in the future, there are some movies you should definitely watch before your trip. Some of these movies are based on rides, some have rides based on them, while others have entire lands that you can explore.
Toy Story
Toy Story has an entire land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with 3 E-ticket attractions, a quick service dining option, and a soon to be table service dining option as well. You can meet your favorite Toy Story characters such as Woody, Buzz, and Bo Peep. Check out my review from the opening day of Toy Story land!
In the Magic Kingdom, you can also join Buzz on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin and help him defend the galaxy!
Star Wars Saga
The presence of Star Wars is very prominent in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with Galaxy’s Edge, Star Tours, and Star Wars Launch Bay.
You can meet characters like Chewbacca, BB-8, and Kylo Ren. Throughout Galaxy’s Edge you can find lots of Storm Troopers and even Rey.
Rise of the Resistance is THE single-most technilogically advanced attraction in all of Orlando. It is more than a ride, but a 30 minute experience. In order to experience it, however, you have to be able to get a boarding group, which is quite the task. But if you are lucky enough, it is so worth it.
Frozen
The majority of the Norway pavilion in Epcot is themed to Frozen. You can meet Anna and
Elsa as well as take a boat ride through some of your favorite scenes of the movie on Frozen Ever After.
In Hollywood Studios, you can join the royal historians in the singing of Arendelle’s national anthems with some of your favorite characters!
Also in Hollywood Studios, you can meet Olaf for some warm hugs!
Avatar
In Animal Kingdom, you can step into Pandora – the World of Avatar. This land consists of 2 attractions, Na’vi River Journey and Flight of Passage, a quick service dining location, Satu’li Canteen, and a walk-up drink window.
Flight of Passage is one of the most technologically advanced rides at Disney World.
The scenery around the land is breathtaking. At night the plants are bio-luminescent, so their glow lights up the land.
Lion King
Staying in Animal Kingdom, Festival of the Lion King is an amazing stage show with great music and an overall exciting atmosphere.
Art of Animation Resort also has a Lion King section of the resort where you can feel as though you just stepped into the movie.
Finding Nemo
This movie also receives a section at Art of Animation Resort, and includes the main pool for the resort. In this pool, you can hear music playing underwater!
Back in Animal Kingdom, you can find Finding Nemo: the Musical. You can join your favorite characters and sing along to some new original songs.
Over at Epcot, you can explore The Seas with Nemo and Friends. On this omnimover style ride, you ride through the 5.7 million gallon aquarium with Nemo, Marlin, Dori, and the rest of the gang.
The Little Mermaid
As a part of the New Fantasyland expansion in 2012, Ariel’s grotto made its debut at the Magic Kingdom. You can meet Ariel in her mermaid form at her grotto and ride through her story on Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid.
Back at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can sing along with Ariel at Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
Beauty and the Beast
Also as a part of New Fantasyland, Belle and Beast received their own area of the Magic Kingdom as well. Grab a snack (or LeFou’s brew) at Gaston’s Tavern or dine like a king at Be Our Guest Restaurant INSIDE Beast’s castle.
In Hollywood Studios, you can enjoy Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, a live Broadway style musical at Theatre of the Stars.
There are definitely more movies that have representation in the parks, but these are the ones that I feel are the most important to get the most out of your vacation at Disney World. If you have not seen these movies, some areas of the park, dining experiences, rides, or shows may not make sense.
